Open World Delegates enjoy their first day in the United States in Tannersville, NY

PRESS RELEASE:

Last Saturday, Sept 6th, the Times Union ran a cover news story titled “Russians are coming, but not as many.” Indeed, 3 out of 5 Russian delegates chosen through the Open World grant program by Congress, were able to secure visas and spend 10 days in Albany hosted by our sister-city organization, the Albany-Tula Alliance. This is the first time that the delegates have every visited the United States.

Tomorrow, Friday, September 12 at 6p, the ATA would like to invite members of the press to the Albany County Country Club where we will officially honor our guests from Tula, Russia with Certificates of Achievements following a buffet dinner. Reporters are welcome to interview the delegates about their experiences, opinions and perspectives on the program and, of course, their time spent in the Capital Region. There will also be time to interview our Albany-Tula Chair, Jerry Shaye, regarding the increased importance of maintaining strong people-to-people diplomacy with friends in Russia, especially during stretches of political tension.

Our three female guests include Kseniya Gribkova, a web editor for a Tula-based newspaper, Yekaterina Gorina, a legal consultant for Tula State University and Valentina Stepanova, an engineer with Tula State University. Their busy itinerary included enjoying the Albany Symphony Orchestra, meeting Mayor Kathy Sheehan, attending a Tech Career Expo, tours of several Capital Region colleges and universities, talking with several heads of incubator programs and cultural trips to the Catskills and Lake George.
