Representatives from Tula State Lev Tolstoy Pedagogical University came to Albany in May 2011 to take part in the 20th anniversary of Albany-Tula Alliance. The TSPU delegation included Pro-rector of International Cooperation and Education Zhanna Fomicheva and Vladimir Andreev, Head of the English Department. Among the guests from Tula there were also Rector of Tula State University Mikhail Gryazev and Dean of the Faculty of PE, Sport and Tourism (TSU) Elena Gryazeva.
In summing up the 20-year long collaboration it was noted that education and culture became the most effective sphere of cooperation.
“We attended several educational institutions,” Vladimir Andreev said. “For example, our students and teachers have participated in exchange programs at Cobleskill College. Now it’s time to think about joint certificates of degree. Next year we also plan to conduct a conference devoted to Lev Tolstoy’s influence on the world’s humanitarian thought, in collaboration with our Albany partners.
“New standards of higher education in Russia require developing new educational programs for getting a degree,” he continued. “Our American colleagues who are more experienced in this sphere are ready to help us. The State University of New York will work together with TSPU to develop a competence-based approach in many humanitarian disciplines. Besides we agreed that the College of Saint Rose would take part in short-term student exchange programs and development of distance learning courses together with TSPU staff.”
