To develop business-to-business and appropriate government relationships between the US and Russia through business communities in the Capital Region of New York and the Tula region of Russia by:
Members of the Business and Economic Development Committee met via teleconference on January 17, 2012 with a Tula panel organized by Tula State University’s Regional Innovative Consulting Center Directors Dr. Roman Rostislavov and Yuriy Chadaev. The meeting was the latest in a series of teleconferences begun in 2011 to explore how the sister cities can aid each other in fostering import and export opportunities.
Following an introduction by Vladimir Panarin, Head of the Department for Innovative Companies and Entrepreneurship Development at Tula State University, Tula State University students presented market research they had prepared on behalf of three Capital Region businesses. This research began in the fall of 2011 and was supported by Jerry Shaye, Albany-Tula Alliance Chair Jerry Shaye and Director of International Trade Development for Empire State Development. Jerry taught a class in market research for the students during a visit to Tula in October.
Ms. Galina Vorobyeva, General Manager for RusVent, Ltd. then presented details about her firm. Ms. Anastasia Astapova presented details about Tulskaya Garmonj, a producer of bayans and accordions that is looking to expand internationally. Union Graduate College students will do market research on behalf of these firms this spring.
Evgeny Makarov of the Tula branch of Enterprise Europe also made a presentation on the activities of this multinational organization which brings new opportunities to SME’s.
Mel Chudzik, Greg Johnson, Peter Thomas, Bill Palmer, president of Aeromed, and Jerry Shaye attended the teleconference at the Union College Graduate Center. The technology was superb and the enthusiasm high. Said Jerry Shaye, “At the next videoconference we hope to have details of two Tula companies seeking markets here. We also hope to have some UGC student teams to do market research under my guidance – they will be students in my International Marketing MBA class.”
We are actively looking for non-remunerated internships with Capital Region companies to place business people from Tula in positions to help them learn about American business practices and develop business connections. These internships would be from two weeks to two months in duration. We are currently seeking Capital Region companies in the fashion and public relations industries to host interns from Tula.
